In addition, the product range – three styles, four lengths – offers excellent adaptability to all body types. Overall the Ultra R3 Mat is a unique, outstanding product in the equipment market, and represents the beginning of a new era for this market segment overall.

We asked the Brands a few questions about their product and their company. This is what they told us:

The new 2022 Exped mat collection was designed to cater for every activity, and every person; regardless of shape, size, or whether they're a warm or cold sleeper. Despite the broad range of models, the end-consumer should easily be able to pick the right mat for them, by choosing from our Ultra (ultralight and small), Dura (durable and warm) or Versa (versatile and great value) families, and then selecting the appropriate R-Value for them, depending on the intended use temperature or season. The Ultra 3R mat is one of our most popular models with its low weight and small pack size, whilst the R-Value of 3 still provides enough insulation down to -5°C. It is also available in the widest range of sizes, from size S for shorter people, medium wide (MW) for side sleepers, right through to Duo sizes for couples. All Exped mats are designed with comfort, durability and sustainability in mind. Exped's new mat range feature recycled materials, and are carbon neutral certified by MyClimate. Features like continuous vertical baffles ensure maximum durability, allow for larger side rails that centre and cradle the sleeper on the mat. The vertical baffles mean that the mat expands width-wise when in-use, creating an even wider, more comfortable sleep platform. All Exped mats include a pump, whether the famous Schnozzel Pumpbag or Integrated Pump. These pumps not only ensure you won't be out of breath inflating your mat, but also increase the lifespan of the product by avoiding excessive moisture inside the mat.

That Exped revolutionized the mat market in 2001, 19 years ago. At that time we came up with the brilliant idea of simply using down in the mat. The Downmat not only won the European Outdoor Award (wasn‘t it smiled at first?), it also made winter camping suddenly much more pleasant. Perhaps that‘s an introduction to the R-Value. That we were significantly involved in the development of this standard method and the R-Value standard is now also in the name of our new mat line.
