"Tell us more about your COMPANY / PRODUCT SUSTAINABILITY... "

COMPANY: Devold of Norway have invested a lot in a fully transparent value chain with strict requirements in terms of animal welfare. We are able to manage a higher degree of control through our set up of supply chain, all through our operations.

We have close relations to our dedicated farmers, who has worked with production of merino wool over generations.

All Devold wool is traceable, over 60% can be traced all the way down to the farm where the wool came from. These farms operate extremely sustainable and with only environmentally friendly operations. Since wool quality depends on sheep welfare, the farms we work with always comply with the Five Freedoms for Animal Welfare.

94% of all our garments are produced at our ISO 14001 certified factory in Europe, Devold UAB. The factory is specially adapted to Devold‘s products and high-quality wool. We located the factory in Europe. Here 304 people are engaged in the many different stages of production and quality control of merino wool. Laboratory testing is performed of such characteristics as strength and fineness, whereby the wool is stretched, x-rayed, and scrutinised in multiple procedures. We also co-own an environmentally certified dye (C2C, European Eco Label, Nordic Eco Label, Oeko-Tex), which ensures that Devold wool is free of hazardous dyes. All chemicals used in our products and packaging meet the requirements of REACH, the EU’s Chemicals Regulation.

We have over the past years moved all operations for the wool handling to Europe.

Your Devold woollen will be gentle on nature while you wear it. Hang out to air. Because wool does not provide a breeding ground for bacteria and has naturally self-cleaning properties, it’ll make for much less laundry than other clothing

PRODUCT: Wool is a natural fiber. Because wool does not provide a breeding ground for bacteria, wool can be worn several times without washing. This saves the environment from unnecessary washing and will extend the life of your woollens.

"We know there are FUN FACTS and / or a BACKSTORY! Please share!"

In 1853 the founder Ole Andreas Devold set out to build a society. He brought with him state-of-the-art mechanical knitting equipment and hoped to sell his wool clothes to fishermen. Devold was recognized as a quality brand and one of the largest textile factories in Norway at that time. The establishment of the Devold factory in Langevåg contributed greatly to people lives. Not only did Ole Andreas Devold create jobs, but he was also concerned with social responsibility. He established a hospital, church, kindergarten, grocery store, and built solid houses for the employees. From a population that could be counted on one hand, a small community grew up at the end of Sulafjellet in Langevåg.
